The Theory Test
Your theory test comprises of 2 parts. The first part that you will take is the multiple choice section.
Once you have finished this then shortly after the hazard perception section will begin.
If you fail either the multiple choice section or the hazard perception section then the entire test will need to be retaken.
Multiple Choice Part
You will be taken to a seat where you will the test. In front of you will be a touch screen where you will be presented with instructions for the multiple choice section. It will also offer you a practice session.
The multiple choice part contains 50 questions. A question will appear onscreen with the option of several answers. You will need to select an answer by touching the screen.
Certain questions may have more than 1 answer. If you are unsure of an answer, it can be 'flagged' and you can return to it later.
The pass mark for this part is 43 out of 50 and you will have 57 minutes to complete the section.
The Hazard Perception Part
A short tutorial video will be presented to you before the actual test starts.
For the test, 14 video clips will be shown. These will feature every day road driving scenes. In every video clip there will be at least 1 developing hazard. Once you have spotted a hazard, you will need to press the mouse button.
Responding to the hazards in their early development will achieve a high score. For each hazard the maximum score is 5.
The pass mark for the hazard perception part is 44 out of 75.
You can only apply for your practical driving test when you have successfully passed your theory test.
